Dance With No Arm, No Leg and Win the Silver Medal


Ma Li was a promising professional ballerina when she lost her right arm in an car accident in 1996 aged 19. Five years later in 2001, she was invited to compete in China’s fifth national special performing arts competition for people with disabilities, and won the gold medal. That success gave her hope for returning to the stage.

In September 2005 she met a 21-year-old man, Zhai Xiaowei. He had lost one leg in an accident aged four, and was being trained as a cyclist for the national special Olympics. Even though he had never danced before, Ma Li invited him to be her dance partner. In April 2009, they won the Silver Medal in China’s national dance competition — second out of 7,000 competitors.

The Real Rocky Story

The Blind Painter


An inspiring documentary of blind painter John Bramblitt, an artist living in Denton Texas. John lost his sight in 2001 and it was then that he started to paint. His art has been sold in over twenty countries and he has appeared internationally in print, TV and radio. His work has received much recognition including the ‘Most Inspirational Video of 2008′ from YouTube and three Presidential Service Awards for his innovative art workshops.

This is a great example of a person who lives his life despite the hand he has been dealt.

The Blind Side


Based on the true story of Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy who take in a homeless teenage African-American, Michael “Big Mike” Oher. Michael has no idea who his father is and his mother is a drug addict. Michael has had little formal education and few skills to help him learn. Leigh Anne soon takes charge however, as is her nature, ensuring that the young man has every opportunity to succeed. When he expresses an interest in football, she goes all out to help him, including giving the coach a few ideas on how best to use Michael’s skills. They not only provide him with a loving home, but hire a tutor to help him improve his grades to the point where he would qualify for an NCAA Division I athletic scholarship. Michael Oher was the first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2009 NFL draft.
